Fylde Council is inviting residents and visitors to share their views on proposals to extend Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs) that prohibit barbecues and outdoor cooking on council-owned land across the borough.

The existing PSPOs, which cover eleven different areas including beaches, coastal areas and public parks, are due to expire in July 2025. Following a decision by the Executive Committee earlier this year, the Council is now consulting on whether to extend these orders for a further three years.

The current orders prohibit the use of barbecues and temporary outdoor cooking facilities in designated areas, with violations punishable by a £50 fixed penalty notice or prosecution with fines of up to £1,000.

Councillor Michelle Morris, Lead Member for Customer and Operational Services, commented: “Over the years, we have received numerous complaints about damage to park furniture and grassed areas caused by barbecues, particularly around Fairhaven Lake, the sand dunes and Lytham Green. Before deciding to extend these orders, we want to hear from local residents and visitors about their experiences and opinions.

“This consultation is an opportunity for everyone to help shape our approach to managing these popular public spaces.”

The consultation is now open and will run until Wednesday 30 April 2025 via this link.

The Council will review all responses before making a final decision on whether to extend the existing orders. If no significant objections arise, the extended PSPOs will come into effect from 1 July 2025.
