Fylde Council is pleased to announce continued support for Ukrainian refugees through the extension of the Homes for Ukraine scheme until March 2027, following a decision at the Executive Committee meeting on Monday, 17 March 2025.

The committee has approved the utilisation of £356,126 in residual Homes for Ukraine funding to maintain vital services, ensuring sustainable resources for Ukrainian guests in Fylde over the next two years.

This funding will enable the Council to continue operating the established Community Hub, which has been providing essential services to Ukrainian refugees since the scheme’s inception in March 2022. The Hub has been instrumental in offering drop-in support, bi-weekly social groups, employment assistance and transport to Ukrainian events.

Councillor Chris Dixon, Lead Member for Social Wellbeing, commented: “The Homes for Ukraine scheme has demonstrated Fylde’s commitment to supporting those displaced by conflict. By securing this funding, we can continue to provide crucial assistance to Ukrainian guests as they build new lives in our community. Our officers at Fylde have done an amazing job, helping welcome our Ukrainian friends and integrating them into a new area and creating links between Ukrainian families as part of a wider support network.”

Since the scheme’s launch, over 100,000 Ukrainian nationals have found safety across the UK. In Fylde, a collaborative approach involving Lancashire County Council, Wyre Borough Council, Blackpool Council, faith groups, voluntary organisations and local police have successfully delivered a range of integration initiatives, including additional English language classes, social support networks, and assistance with housing and employment opportunities.

The Community Hub, which launched in March 2020 during the pandemic, has evolved to meet changing community needs. Its services have included food parcels, shopping assistance, medication supplies, befriending services and dog walking support, showcasing the community’s unified response to supporting those in need.
