Fylde Council is pleased to announce impressive tourism performance figures for 2023, as revealed in the latest STEAM (Scarborough Tourism Economic Activity Monitor) statistics.

The borough has secured its position as a leading Lancashire destination, with results highlighting Fylde’s continued recovery and growth following the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Key findings from the 2023 STEAM report include:

  • Total visitor numbers reached 3.19 million, representing a 3.87% increase compared to 2022.
  • Tourism generated £345.7 million for the local economy, making up 6% of Lancashire’s total tourism economic impact.
  • The sector continues to support over 3,300 jobs within the borough.
  • Fylde attracted 5% of all visitors to Lancashire. The Red Rose county saw total visitor numbers rise to 66.7 million, up 3.8% from 2022.

Fylde Council has made significant investments in tourism infrastructure throughout the borough, including town centre event spaces, new café developments, enhanced accommodation options, and improvements to key attractions such as Fairhaven Lake and the Beach Hub, set to open this Spring. These investments reflect the Council’s commitment to providing high-quality experiences for visitors while supporting local businesses.

Councillor Jayne Nixon, Lead Member for Tourism, Culture and Leisure, commented: “These figures demonstrate Fylde’s enduring appeal as a premier destination within Lancashire. Our beautiful coastline, outstanding natural environment and vibrant events programme continue to attract visitors from across the UK and beyond.

“As we look forward to what we hope will be a warm summer season, we’re particularly excited for visitors to enjoy our excellent water facilities, including our popular paddling pool. Beyond our renowned beaches, Fylde boasts an impressive array of cultural venues that significantly enhance the visitor experience, from museums and galleries to theatres and historic sites.”
