Households across Fylde are being given another simple way to do their bit for the environment, as cartons become the latest item to be accepted in the blue bin from Wednesday 1 April.

Tetra Pak-style cartons – the kind used every day for fruit juice, plant-based and long-life milks, custard, chopped tomatoes and soups – can now be popped straight into the blue bin alongside other recyclables, making it easier than ever to recycle more without any extra effort.

The change brings Fylde in line with the UK Government’s ‘Simpler Recycling’ requirements and means even more waste from our homes will be recovered and recycled rather than going to landfill. It’s worth remembering that while carton-shaped packaging is welcome in the blue bin, items like coffee cups, Pringles tubes and plastic pouches are not included in this scheme.

Councillor Michelle Morris, Lead Member for Customer and Operational Services, said: “This is a really positive step forward for recycling in Fylde. Cartons are something most of us use every single week, so being able to recycle them from the kerbside will make a genuine difference. It’s another example of us making it as easy as possible for residents to recycle more.”

This latest addition follows toothpaste tubes joining the blue bin last year, alongside rigid plastics and glass. To find out everything that can be recycled in Fylde, visit https://new.fylde.gov.uk/resident/bins-recycling-and-rubbish/which-bin-do-i-use/
