Businesses across Fylde have diverted more than 25 tonnes of waste from landfill since Fylde Council launched its enhanced commercial recycling service in September 2025 – a significant step forward in protecting our local environment for future generations.
Since the service launched, businesses have recycled over 15 tonnes of glass, cans and plastics, and a further 10 tonnes of paper and card – together equivalent to the weight of an entire refuse wagon. Every tonne recycled reduces harmful greenhouse gas emissions and preserves valuable natural resources, making a tangible difference to both our local area and the wider environment.
The service supports businesses in meeting their obligations under the Government’s Simpler Recycling legislation, while offering a genuine financial incentive: recycling costs just £50 per tonne compared to £186 per tonne for general waste disposal.
Councillor Michelle Morris, Lead Member for Customer and Operational Services, said: “These figures speak for themselves, and we couldn’t be prouder. Fylde’s businesses are a perfect example of how easy and important it is to recycle, showing that sustainability and good business sense go hand in hand. We’re delighted to be supporting them with a service that makes recycling simple, affordable and effective.”
Collections are available for paper, cardboard, plastics, cans and glass, with commercial food waste collections set to follow when the household food waste service launches in 2026. Micro-businesses with fewer than 10 employees will also be brought into the scheme by March 2027.
