The Licensing Team will automatically send a renewal pack to your home address approximately one month before your current taxi badge is due to expire. This will give you sufficient time to complete the application form and provide any supporting documents required.

If you have not received your renewal pack or have misplaced the form, you can download a replacement form or request one to be sent by post by emailing licensing@fylde.gov.uk

Important Information

  • Renewal applications must be submitted before your current licence expires
  • If your application is received after the expiry date, full new licence fee will apply
  • Renewal applications submitted more than seven days after expiry will automatically be processed as new applications

To avoid delays or additional charges, please ensure that your renewal application is completed and submitted in good time.

From 4 April 2022, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) introduced a mandatory tax check for individuals renewing certain licences. This applies to anyone applying for or renewing a licence to:

  • Drive a taxi (hackney carriage)
  • Drive a private hire vehicle (including dual licences)
  • Operate a private hire vehicle business
  • Deal in scrap metal as a mobile collector
  • Operate a scrap metal dealer site

This tax check is a simple online process designed to ensure applicants are correctly registered for tax, helping to create a fair system for all businesses and individuals. The check is required upon licence renewal and typically takes just a few minutes to complete.

Need Help?

All applicants are required to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check as part of the taxi or private hire licence application process. In line with national guidance, the Licensing Team is required to carry out DBS checks every six months.

If you are not subscribed to the DBS Update Service, we will send you a DBS renewal form approximately one month before your current certificate expires. Please ensure you complete and return this form as early as possible, as DBS processing can take time and you cannot legally drive without a valid certificate.

When submitting your DBS form, please include the following original documents:

  • Valid passport (if held)
  • UK driving licence
  • Proof of address, dated within the last 3 months (or within 12 months for Council Tax bills)
  • Proof of National Insurance number

Please email licensing@fylde.gov.uk to make an appointment to submit your application.

If you have misplaced or not received your DBS form, please contact the Licensing Team:

  • Email: licensing@fylde.gov.uk
  • Phone: 01253 658658

DBS Update Service

To make the six month checks easier and more cost-effective, we strongly advise that you subscribe to the DBS Update Service.

The subscription is £16 per year, compared to £99 for two DBS checks annually. Subscribing also means you won’t need to visit us every six months.

Please note:
If you choose to subscribe, make sure your card details remain up to date. If your payment fails, the subscription will be cancelled, and DBS may not notify you of this.

We will notify you once your DBS has been posted out to you. If you do not receive your certificate within 10 days, please contact DBS directly and do not ignore this:

All applicants must undergo a medical examination as part of their initial taxi or private hire licence application. Ongoing medicals are then required at specific intervals, based on age:

  • Initial application: Medical examination required.
  • Up to age 45: No further medicals required unless otherwise advised.
  • Ages 45 to 65: Medical examination every 5 years.
  • Over 65 years: Medical examination required annually.

Please note that all medicals must be arranged and paid for by the applicant.

We will issue a reminder approximately one month before your current medical is due to expire. This will include the medical form that your GP or medical professional must complete. The form must be fully completed, signed, dated, and stamped by the practitioner.

If you have not received your reminder or have misplaced the form, you can:

Please ensure medicals are completed and returned in good time to avoid delays in the renewal of your licence.
