Tom left school in 2023 age 16.  His ambition was to work in the construction industry, to complete an apprenticeship in his chosen trade to gain as high a level qualification as possible.

He decided that he would take his time finding the right construction apprenticeship but did not waste his time as he wanted to be working and earning money, so he took a part time job at The Villa working as a waiter. This gave him time to think carefully about what he wanted to do. Tom signed up to the Fylde Apprenticeship Project with the Community Foundation (CF) where he expressed his wish to work on an apprenticeship and build his skills. With support from his family contacts, he managed to secure a position with a local company, CSB Contractors, as an apprentice heating engineer.

Tom began work with the company in April 2024 meeting and very quickly found that he had made the right choice in choosing the heating / plumbing / engineering industry.

The CF staff are supporting Tom on his apprenticeship journey ensuring he is comfortable moving forward in his chosen career and maintain regular contact with him.

Tom has begun work on the NVQ qualification at Level 1 and will progress over the next 3 years until he has achieved Level 3 when he will be a fully qualified engineer.

Tom recognises that he is working and learning with a very good company, but is considering what he might want to do when he is qualified and more experienced. He feels that one day he would like to manage his own business, to be responsible for securing his own work and, hopefully, making a good living.
