With Christmas fast approaching, there’s no better time to check the hygiene rating of your local eatery.

Whether you’re organising a gathering with family, friends or work colleagues, don’t just check out the menu. Check out the hygiene rating before making your booking – you may be glad you did!

The National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme is well-established and operated by The Food Standards Agency in partnership with Fylde Council. Officers routinely check hygiene standards at businesses such as hotels, restaurants, cafes and takeaways to provide a rating on a scale ranging from 0 at the bottom (meaning ‘urgent improvement necessary’) to a top rating of 5 (‘very good’).

Check ratings easily online at www.food.gov.uk/ratings, through the Food Hygiene app available through the App Store or Google Play, or look for the distinctive green and black rating sticker.

Are you a food business? Why not make the most of your rating?

Good food hygiene is good for business, and there are a number of free resources you can use to tell customers about your rating. There’s no better time than Christmas to spread your great news. The Food Standards Agency have provided a toolkit that contains imagery and banners for rating promotion and display, including social media, customer email templates, logos and artworks:  https://www.food.gov.uk/business-guidance/making-the-most-of-your-business-rating
