In 2011 the Warton Aerodrome site was awarded Enterprise Zone status. This is as part of the ‘Lancashire Advanced Engineering and Manufacturing Enterprise Zone’, with Samlesbury Aerodrome forming the other part of the Enterprise Zone.
A Local Development Order was issued by Fylde Council on part of the site in 2015. This removed the need for planning permission for various forms of development that were compatible with the main aim of the Enterprise Zone which is to promote advanced engineering and manufacturing industries.
That 2015 Local Development Order has now been updated and replaced with a new Order which was adopted by Fylde Council on 3 March 2025 and provides an update to the original Order and an expansion of the forms of development that can be undertaken without planning permission being required. This is to reflect changes in planning legislation and in the focus of activity within the Warton facility.
