The Tourism & Leisure Committee meeting on 7th January made a firm commitment to invest in this popular and well-used park and playing fields.

The first stage is to replace the original collapsed drain that runs the entire length of the field; a significant investment of approximately £125,000 that should massively improve the drainage of the area for the future. At the same time, investigative work will be undertaken, on how best to improve the quality of the football pitches and prevent waterlogging of the site during very wet spells.

These necessary preliminary works are to commence over the coming months; the next stages will be to look at a complete revamp of the children’s play park, refurbishment of the changing rooms and other general improvements to the playing fields.

Cllrs Roger Small and David O’Rourke of Kilnhouse Ward said: “We are very pleased to see the first phase of the improvement works getting the go-ahead.  We are confident that over the course of this year, users of the park and local residents will see a dramatic improvement in the much-loved playing fields.  The goal of top-grade facilities for all users is that much nearer.”
