Families who love bringing their children to the much-loved Pirate Cove Play Area at Fairhaven Lake have exciting news to celebrate, after Fylde Council’s Executive Committee approved £11,000 of funding to breathe new life into the popular attraction.
The play area, a firm favourite with toddlers and younger children for over a decade, has started to show its age, with worn safety surfacing, weathered fencing and equipment in need of repair. Councillors meeting on Tuesday 15 September gave the green light for the investment, secured through Section 106 developer contributions tied to a nearby housing development on Clifton Drive South, to fund a programme of repairs and improvements.
The council has set out an ambitious wish list for the site, including a new accessible entrance linking to the recently installed accessible pathway network, smarter perimeter fencing, renewed safety surfacing, and attention to well-loved features including the pirate treasure chest, alongside fresh planting and improvements around the café seating area. Detailed designs and costs will be worked up before work begins, and the council will prioritise the improvements that make the biggest difference within the available budget.
Councillor Jayne Nixon, Lead Member for Tourism, Leisure and Culture, said: “Pirate Cove has been putting smiles on children’s faces at Fairhaven Lake for years, and it’s fantastic that we can now invest in bringing it up to the standard our families deserve. These improvements will make sure this brilliant play area keeps making happy memories for generations to come.”
The aim is to keep one of Fylde’s best-loved family spaces safe, accessible and fun for years to come -the latest example of the Council’s ongoing commitment to looking after our parks and green spaces for residents and visitors alike.
