The outgoing Mayor of Fylde, Cllr Cheryl Little, proudly presented her chosen charities with fundraising cheques on Thursday 2 May 2024, in one of her final acts as Mayor before the new Mayoral Team.
Mayor Little’s first chosen charity is Lytham Hall. Representatives Elizabeth Mulligan, Jane Oliver and Pam Gregory were presented with a cheque for over £10,000 made possible by the Mayor’s fundraising efforts throughout her term of office.
“Working with managers Peter and Paul, and the hundreds of volunteers, has been lifechanging,” said Mayor Little. She continued: “I have seen the commitment, the passion, and the work which I know is far from over, but what they have accomplished together has made a difference to hundreds of people’s lives.
“Their dedication and encouragement have made a significant impact, not only here at the Hall, but far and wide when visitors come from far afield, and I am so proud to have been part of it.”
The Mayor’s second chosen charity, World Horse Welfare Penny Farm received a cheque for £5,000. Presenting Zoe Clifford with the cheque, Mayor Little said:
“In 2019, I was invited to Penny Farm in my role as Fylde Tourism Portfolio Holder. This was to the official opening of the redeveloped Visitor Centre – a prestigious visit by Princess Anne, their Royal President – and from that point I was hooked on the work Zoe and her team do, not only her in Fylde but also outreach at Appleby Fayre.
“It was then I promised Zoe that if I ever became Mayor, this would be one of my charities. I am delighted to be able to fulfil my promise, and I know that this cheque will be gratefully received and carefully used.”
In addition to the Mayoral fundraising for these two chosen charities, each year the Mayoral team apply to the George’s Garage (George & Maisie Blackburn) Charitable Trust for a contribution. This year, Mayor Little was asked to nominate a third charity falling within their parameters to consider a contribution for.
After careful consideration, Mayor Little chose to nominate Streetwise, a local organisation providing a myriad of focused opportunities to improve the behaviour, financial, physical and mental wellbeing of groups in the community, delivered through clubs, community groups and outreach.
The cheque for £4,000, awarded by the Trust, was presented to Lainey and Gerry Gregoire of the Streetwise charity.
The new Fylde Mayoral Team will be announced at the Annual Meeting of the Council, to be held on Wednesday 8 May 2024 at Lowther Pavilion, West Beach, Lytham.
