A vibrant celebration of Kirkham and Wesham’s textile heritage brought the community together last month, showcasing the lasting impact of local investment in cultural connections.

The event, organised by Kirkham Cultural Connections, transformed the town into a living museum with captivating displays, traditional crafts and fascinating demonstrations that delighted residents of all ages.

What began as part of the Kirkham Futures Project has blossomed into something truly special for Kirkham’s community. This fantastic legacy initiative continues to thrive, bringing people together to discover and celebrate the threads that weave through our local history.

Leader of Fylde Council, Councillor Karen Buckley, attended the celebration and said: “I was delighted to attend Kirkham Cultural Connections’ heritage event celebrating the rich textile history of Kirkham and Wesham. The displays, crafts and demonstrations were delightful to see and well supported by the community.

“What a wonderful legacy this is from the work originally undertaken as part of the Kirkham Futures programme which was funded by Historic England, Fylde Council and Kirkham Town Council. I got a real sense of the passion and pride on show towards the town’s textile heritage which really brought the community together. Congratulations!”

Andrea Selley, Secretary at Kirkham Cultural Connections, added: “It’s been wonderful to see so many people come together to celebrate Kirkham’s textile heritage — from families sharing stories to new residents discovering the town’s creative past. This event brought together different community groups and has shown local people’s continued interest in celebrating Kirkham and Wesham’s heritage. The enthusiasm and pride shown by everyone involved remind us how strong our community spirit is.

“We are proud of our town and hope to organise more community-led events like this in future, continuing to bring Kirkham’s history to life in inspiring and joyful ways.”

The success story continues as Kirkham Cultural Connections has secured additional support this year through Fylde Council’s Community Projects Fund, ensuring more inspirational events will bring our heritage to life. This investment demonstrates how Council funding creates lasting benefits, transforming initial projects into thriving community assets that residents can enjoy for years to come.
