The Fylde Focus Programme continues to demonstrate its success in helping individuals launch their careers, this is how the programme helped Joe.
An AFC Fylde Community Staff Representative said:
“The Foundation first came into contact with Joe through a referral from the job centre. I met Joe on the 24th of June at a local cafe in Warton. We discussed with Joe what Fylde Focus is and how we can support him. In our first meeting, we discussed his previous education where he had achieved merit in BETC Sport level 3. We also talked about what jobs he may want to do and what skills he can take from his college course into the workplace. Joe explained that he prefers a more physical job, like working in a warehouse. I signed Joe up to Toolkit to complete an online course to do at home around interview prep as he had not had a Job interview for a while. I also set Joe a challenge to apply for at least 3 Jobs by our meeting the following week.
On our second meeting, Joe had applied for 3 jobs. They included Aldi. DWP and casual at the post office warehouse. Joe explained to me that his work coach had mentioned I could help him get signed up to build up with Blackpool and Fylde College. I explained what build-up was and that he’d be working towards his CSCS card and other skills. Joe wanted to sign up for the course so AFC Fylde community staff supported him in enrolling on the course and also explained we would meet him on his first day there.
We also support Joe with applying for a bus pass from the college to get to and from the course. When we saw Joe he had had his induction Joe’s aim after the course was to become a general Labour after he had received his site card.”
