Fylde Council is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone living, working, or owning property in buildings that are classified as medium to high-rise or higher-risk structures. These buildings require additional safety measures to protect occupants and comply with national building safety regulations.

What is a Higher-Risk Building?

A higher-risk building typically includes:

  • Residential buildings over 18 metres or seven storeys high.
  • Buildings with complex layouts or vulnerable occupants, such as care homes or hospitals.

Why this matters:

Following recent national building safety legislation, owners and managers of these buildings have legal responsibilities to maintain structural and fire safety standards. Residents and businesses also play a vital role in reporting concerns and understanding evacuation procedures.

Your responsibilities

Freeholders and Building Owners: Must register higher-risk buildings with the Building Safety Regulator and maintain a safety case file.

Residents and Businesses: Stay informed about fire safety plans, keep communal areas clear, and report any hazards promptly.

Council Support: Fylde Council works closely with the Building Safety Regulator to provide guidance and enforcement where necessary. We encourage all stakeholders to review the latest safety requirements and ensure compliance.
