Fylde Council has approved plans to expand the governing body of Lytham Institute, a registered charity committed to enhancing the quality of life for residents of Lytham and the surrounding area.
As the sole trustee of the charity, the Council is taking steps to increase the board’s capacity by recruiting additional trustees with expertise in key areas, including fundraising, finance, arts, culture, heritage, and communications.
Councillor Karen Buckley, Leader of Fylde Council, emphasised the significance of this expansion for the future of Lytham Institute: “Lytham Institute is a registered charity whose purpose is to provide facilities for education, recreation and leisure. By expanding the board of trustees with individuals who bring specific skills and a deep commitment to our community’s welfare, we are ensuring that the Institute will continue to thrive and meet the objective of improving conditions for Lytham and its neighbours.”
The decision to increase the trustee board was made in response to recommendations from the Council’s committee meeting earlier this year, and a working group, chaired by Councillor Buckley, has since been established to shape a comprehensive recruitment process. The aim is to recruit six additional trustees, each bringing specialised knowledge to strengthen the board’s governance and support the Institute’s objectives.
The new trustees will be selected through an open recruitment process, which will include advertisement via Fylde Council’s communications channels. Prospective trustees will be asked to submit a CV and a supporting statement, with shortlisted candidates interviewed by the working group.
Once appointed, the expanded board will play a crucial role in leading the charity and advancing the findings of a feasibility study, currently underway, to explore future opportunities for the Lytham Institute. The Council expects to report the outcome of the recruitment process and make formal appointments in January 2025.
