Fylde Council is proud to support the launch of the new Town Link ShopSafe Radio System in St Annes, a collaborative initiative that will enhance safety and communication for local businesses.
Launching on Wednesday 7 January, the system creates a connected network between retailers, town centre staff, Fylde Police and Council Officers, enabling real-time information sharing to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.
The Council has worked alongside Lancashire Police and local businesses to secure funding for this vital scheme, with £4,200 from the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Office adding to funding from the Lancashire Partnership Against Crime (LANPAC). This investment means participating businesses will receive the system free of charge during a 12-month trial period.
Councillor Chris Dixon, Lead Member for Social Wellbeing, said: “This ShopSafe system demonstrates our commitment to supporting local businesses and creating a safer environment for everyone who visits, works or lives in St Annes.
“We’re delighted to have secured this funding, which gives businesses the opportunity to trial the system at no cost while we work together to ensure its long-term sustainability. This is about building a stronger, more resilient community and ensuring St Annes continues to thrive as a destination of choice.”
Sergeant Adam Robinson from Fylde Neighbourhood Policing Team added: “The ShopSafe Radio System is a fantastic example of how partnership working can make a real difference. By improving communication between businesses and our officers, we can respond quickly to incidents, prevent crime, and create a safer environment for everyone.
“This initiative is about building confidence and ensuring St Annes remains a vibrant and welcoming town centre.”
The initiative forms part of the national Winter of Action campaign, which sees police, councils and partners working together to tackle retail crime, street crime, anti-social behaviour and crime in the night-time economy.
Following the 12-month trial, businesses will have the option to subscribe to continue using the system, with the council committed to working with retailers to ensure the scheme’s sustainability.
