Fylde Council has received encouraging feedback from an independent review assessing progress against recommendations made by the Local Government Association following its Corporate Peer Challenge in 2024.

The Progress Review, conducted on 9 January 2026, found that the Council had made strong progress, with six of the nine original recommendations rated as complete and three showing ongoing development. Peers praised the Council’s impressive performance data and satisfaction rates, describing them as “a testament to the Council’s commitment to positive community outcomes.”

The review team highlighted several areas of strength, including the Council’s robust financial management, improved working relationships between councillors and officers, and enhanced scrutiny arrangements. The transformation of St Annes Square was recognised as a positive example of place-based regeneration, while tourism was identified as a key driver of Fylde’s economic success.

With Local Government Reorganisation on the horizon, the peer team commended the Council’s willingness to engage constructively with change and think creatively about the future, noting the positive consensus among councillors to achieve the best outcomes for Fylde residents.

Councillor Karen Buckley, Leader of Fylde Council, said: “This review confirms what we’ve long believed – that Fylde Council delivers excellent services for our residents. While there’s always more work to do, I’m proud of the progress our dedicated team of officers and councillors have made. As we navigate the changes ahead, we remain absolutely committed to ensuring Fylde continues to thrive.”
