Fylde Council is celebrating the fantastic achievements of its apprentices as National Apprenticeship Week 2026 launches this week (9-15 February), showcasing how local people are building rewarding careers while serving their community.

The Council’s thriving apprenticeship programme now supports 18 local people across a diverse range of roles, from civil engineering and building control to project management and data analysis. These apprentices are gaining valuable hands-on experience and nationally recognised qualifications while earning a wage and making a real difference to the services residents rely on every day.

This year marks particular cause for celebration, with three apprentices recently completing their qualifications. All three are now putting their skills to work for Fylde’s 80,000 residents.

The programme continues to grow, with current apprentices studying at local education providers including Blackpool and The Fylde College, UCLan and Preston College, working towards qualifications ranging from Level 3 vocational certificates through to Level 7 senior leadership.

Fylde Council’s Service Director for Place and Culture, Daniel Atkinson, who completes his Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship this summer, said: “Completing an apprenticeship has been an incredibly positive experience for me, allowing me to develop my leadership skills while continuing to work, learn and deliver for our communities.

“Apprenticeships provide a practical and inclusive route to high-quality qualifications, and they demonstrate that learning and career progression can happen at any stage.

“I am proud of the commitment shown by our apprentices and the contribution they make every day to services across Fylde.”
