Fylde Council today announced that six of the borough’s parks have secured the coveted Green Flag Award, cementing their status among the UK’s 2,250 finest green spaces.

The winning parks, Ashton Gardens, Fairhaven Lake and Gardens, Lowther Gardens, Lytham War Memorial Garden, Promenade Gardens, and Elswick Parish Council’s Elswick Village Hall and Gardens, have each met the rigorous international standards for excellence in park management.

Councillor Jayne Nixon, Lead Member for Tourism, Leisure and Culture, said: “I’m delighted that our parks have been recognised with Green Flag awards. This achievement reflects the dedication of our parks team and volunteers who maintain these wonderful green spaces to such high standards.

“Our parks are vital community assets that provide opportunities for residents and visitors to connect with nature, stay active and spend quality time together. We’re proud to offer these award-winning parks as part of what makes Fylde such a special place to live and visit.”

Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, Paul Todd MBE, said: “Congratulations to everyone involved in achieving these awards who have worked tirelessly to ensure that it achieves the high standards required for the Green Flag Award.

“Quality parks and green spaces like those in Fylde make the country a heathier place to live and work in, and a stronger place in which to invest.”

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
