The Fylde ACU British Sand Masters 2022 will be taking place on St Annes North Beach on Sunday 2 October 2022, offering residents and visitors an opportunity to witness some of the most talented riders in the country compete for titles in what is certain to be an exhilarating racing championship.

Organised by Cheshire Grasstrack Club and presented with the support of Fylde Council, the free spectator entry event will see solo bikes, sidecars and quad bikes racing in a series of contests from 12.30pm on a purpose-built oval track north of the North Beach area.

Cllr Michael Sayward, Chairman of Fylde Council’s Tourism and Leisure Committee, said: “It’s our great pleasure to welcome this spectacular championship to St Annes. With such large and expansive beaches, we’re lucky to be able to host special events such as the British Sand Masters 2022 while still being able to offer a traditional seaside tourist experience. Taking place as it is on the north beach area, far from the St Annes Pier, visitors will be able to enjoy the racing while those simply wanting to stroll the beaches can do so without disruption.”

All competitors must be licensed via the Auto-Cycle Union (ACU), the governing body of British Motorcycle Sport, and the event will be marshalled by the members of the Cheshire Grasstrack Club.

To ensure safety and minimise disruption to the local community, the track perimeter will be fenced with heavy duty plastic mesh, with additional safety rope and post fencing, and all machines will be examined to ensure compliance with ACU handbook regulations, which states sound must not exceed 81db. The track will be carefully dismantled following the event to ensure no trace remains.

Attendees will be able to enjoy refreshments at the food and drinks court adjacent to the track area, where stalls from trade interests and sponsors will also be available.

The first race will begin at 12.30pm, with a typical race lasting 2-3 minutes. Admission is free to the public, though donations are welcomed and would be greatly appreciated.
