Food businesses across the Fylde are scoring top marks for Food Hygiene Ratings as advent calendars countdown to Christmas!

The past twelve months have seen record numbers of food businesses changing ownership or starting from scratch, adopting new business models to thrive in unprecedented circumstances. Whether these businesses were introducing takeaway options, offering delivery services, or even preparing food from home, Fylde Council officers have been engaging remotely with them throughout the pandemic, continuing to provide expert advice to maintain impeccable hygiene standards and support Fylde’s economy.

The results speak for themselves, with dozens of Fylde food establishments receiving the well-earned early Christmas gift of a National Food Hygiene Rating of 5. Such scores reflect their excellence in hygienic handling of food, cleanliness of facilities, and staff training, amongst other criteria designed to keep diners healthy and happy.

The Food Standards Agency Local Authority Recovery Roadmap set out a plan of national objectives for a phased recovery, detailing how local authorities are to return to normal service delivery and how official food safety controls will be implemented until April 2023 and potentially beyond. Fylde Food Safety officers have been working hard to help bring back a touch of normality in time for the festive period.

Councillor Thomas Threlfall, Chairman of the Environment, Health and Housing Committee, said: “Fylde Council officers have endeavoured to help our valued local businesses all that we can, and the excellent standard achieved highlights the value of this association. I’d like to thank these businesses for working with us to help make Fylde a desirable destination for tourists and residents alike.”
