Fylde Council is deeply saddened to share the news that Councillor Julie Brickles, current representative for the Warton ward, has passed away. Our thoughts are with her family during this difficult time.

Councillor Julie Brickles was first elected to Fylde Council representing the Warton and Westby ward on 5 May 2011, and she went on to win subsequent re-elections in 2015, 2019, and 2023, when she became the representative for the newly formed Warton ward following boundary changes.

She served on many committees, including Policy Development, Community Focus, Operational Management, Chief Officer Employment, Tourism and Leisure, Member Development Steering Group, and Community Focus Scrutiny.

Cllr Peter Collins, Leader of the Independents, said: “I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my friend and fellow Independent Councillor Julie Brickles.

I have known Julie since she was first elected to Fylde Council in 2011 and she soon became a very loyal and trusted friend. She was down to earth, practical, no-nonsense and very much hands on in all she did.

She was a very able councillor at both Fylde and Warton Parish, determined and tenacious, who would not give up on an issue about which she felt strongly, she was an excellent campaigner.

Julie was very well respected and will be missed by councillors and officers alike at Fylde as well as by the community of Warton which she represented so well.

I am sure all our thoughts are with her husband Michael and all her family at this sad time.

Rest in Peace Julie”

Cllr Karen Buckley, Leader of Fylde Council, said: “We are all devastated to hear the news of Cllr Julie Brickles’ passing. Julie was a dedicated and passionate member of our council, and her contributions to the community were invaluable. I know I speak for everyone when I say she will be profoundly missed. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with her family, friends, and everyone who loved her during this difficult time.”
