You can register as an overseas voter if you’re a British citizen living abroad. To complete an application please visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

Renewing your registration

Your registration lasts up to 3 years. You’ll get a reminder when it’s time to renew. If you do not renew your registration, you’ll be removed from the register and must make a fresh application in order to vote again.

Voting if you’re registered as an overseas voter

You can vote in UK Parliament elections.

We strongly recommend that overseas electors apply to vote by proxy due to the unreliability of overseas post and the short timescale used in a UK Parliamentary election.

Overseas voters must remember to apply separately to vote by post (Postal Vote) or to apply for someone to vote on their behalf (Proxy Vote), unless they intend to return home to vote in person.

To apply for an absent vote please complete an application online at www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote or www.gov.uk/apply-proxy-vote
