What is CHANGE?

CHANGE (Creating Healthy Activities and Nutritious Gains to Empower change) programme is a healthy lifestyle programme that has been designed to help people make changes to improve their health and wellbeing. It is specifically for residents of Fylde over the age of 18 years.

This programme is to help people make small changes to their lifestyle which will make a big change to their health!

There are 10 weekly group nutrition sessions, held either face to face or online and 1:1 support on offer – it is advised for you to attend as many sessions as possible to get the most out of the programme.

Within the weekly group sessions various topics will be covered, from how to read a food label to coping with food cravings.

Alongside the nutrition sessions we also offer low impact exercise sessions that are free for those on the CHANGE programme to attend. These activities include badminton, chair-based exercises and Wellbeing Walks.

Our Wellbeing Walks are advertised via the Ramblers Wellbeing website at the following link – Ramblers Wellbeing Walks Fylde

These sessions are held face to face and online in small groups however, 1:1 sessions are also available. For further information please contact sarah.salthouse@fylde.gov.uk

What do people say?

Case study A wrote: “Since joining the CHANGE programme, I have a greater knowledge of food and nutrition, and how these affect my health and wellbeing. I have begun to exercise both within the CHANGE programme and outside of this by joining the gym and, weather permitting, riding my bike. The CHANGE programme is a must for Fylde residents wanting to make ‘changes’ to their lifestyle.”

Case study B wrote: “[The best part about the course has been] meeting other friendly like-minded people with common goals. CHANGE is a friendly pro-active group where you learn new nutrition skills and can try new exercise regimes in a non-pressure environment.”

Case study C wrote: “The programme has helped me to embed changes and opened up my social interactions which had diminished directly after retiring from work. My mental health has improved. […] I am more conscious about what I eat.”

Case study D – A BIG THANK YOU to Sarah, not only have I learnt about portion sizes (big downfall before), lost over a stone, reduced my high blood pressure and reduced my cholesterol, I have dropped 2 dress sizes!! I have loved being a part of the programme. Enjoyed the lessons. After 57 years of bad habits, I could see where I was going wrong.

Yes I had a scare from my doctors in December but with all the knowledge I now have I feel that me and my family have a better relationship with food.

Thank so much to everyone especially Sarah.

I personally feel so much more confident in/about life.

Case study E – The sessions were held in small informal groups where I felt relaxed and comfortable. Sarah was friendly, knowledgeable and approachable throughout. Best part is gaining motivation and changing my outlook and lifestyle to a healthier approach which I hope I maintain by continuing with exercise class.

Case Study F – I joined the CHANGE programme earlier this year with Amanda on Tuesday walks and she started badminton sessions, I thought okay I will try because I never played any sports when I was younger. I couldn’t hit the shuttle I was trying Amanda and Sarah kept encouraging me and showing me and, others in the group helped me. My confidence grew. We are learning new skills and having fun meeting other people. This programme helped me a lot I use to feel lonely and bored. I feel we are so lucky to get these things for free.

Case study G – My physical activity has increase, I was not going any regular exercise. I now do 4 – 5 activities per week = 4 – 5 hours plus walking. I am more conscious of what I eat. More home cooked, less processed foods. The best part = the activities, meeting new people, awareness.

Case Study H – I have lost 4 stone and 6 lb since the start of the year. I eat better, do more activity and I feel better. I am really grateful for everything.

Case study I – I hope these activities can continue they have been a great help to me being able to participate and make new friends.

Case study J – there are many different things to do, it motivated me to get me moving. Making new friends and discussing issues and getting ideas to better myself.

Case study K– My physical activity has increased considerably since joining the programme because of the programme. This has indeed ensured a number of changes both physically and nutritionally in my lifestyle, it has helped my energy levels as well as mental health, thank you. Without doubt my favourite part of the course was the introduction to walking cricket, along with useful recipe ideas. overall, it has been an education to attend your weekly sessions. Its my belief that I pick up a single nugget of useful information each week it would have been successful however, I have honestly learned so much more thanks to you and the group who have all been contributors.
