James was referred to the Fylde Focus Programme from the YMCA Harbour House St Annes. James wanted to join the programme for support with his confidence, to help look for job vacancies and college courses. James disclosed that he struggled with body dysmorphia which affects his mental health and he also struggles with his knee disability. James is currently homeless and is residing in temporary accommodation.
On our first meeting James was very proud to say he has qualifications in music and wants a career in the music industry. James has dyslexia and due to this he struggles to read and complete application forms, staff have supported James with online/written application forms and also worked with him to create a CV and cover letter.
Staff have supported James with his homelessness by approaching Fylde Council to apply for social housing with my choice homes. Staff gave James contact details for different talking therapies which may help with his mental health.
James and the staff researched courses, apprenticeships and job vacancies. James decided to look for employment in music and discussed an option of setting up a band. After a few weeks James had created a band with 3 other people. James has produced songs for the band and he advertised his band playing their songs through social media. This had positive feedback and he has been contacted by different events managers wanting his band to perform at different venues such as Crypt and Cavern Club.
James is due to tour the country at different venues with different artists which he will gain an income from as self-employed. Staff supported James with information on how to register as self-employed with HMRC, budgeting finances for costs, profits and keeping records and receipts of any income received for the performances.
James was very grateful to have the support from the foundation staff whilst engaging on the Fylde Focus Programme.
