Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013
The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 came into force in October 2013. A copy of the Act can be accessed viewed here.
The Act repeals the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 1964 and consolidates scrap metal dealers & motor salvage operators under one licensing regime. Local Authorities will continue to act as the main regulator but the new Act gives Licensing Authorities more powers, including the power to refuse a licence and powers to revoke licenses if the dealer is considered unsuitable. Both the Local Authority and the Police have been given powers to enter and inspect premises.
Two types of licence will be issued under the Act. They are Site Licences and Collectors Licences.
- A Site licence can allow you to operate from a site and collect any scrap relevant to that site (includes multiple sites within the Borough)
- A Collector’s licence will allow you to collect scrap within the Fylde area only. You will need to apply for a collector’s licence from each authority you wish to operate in.
