Fly-tipping is the illegal dumping of waste and is a serious environmental crime. It affects our communities, harms wildlife, and spoils the appearance of our public spaces.
What is Fly-Tipping?
Fly-tipping involves the unauthorised disposal of waste on land. This can range from a several black bags to large quantities of household or commercial waste. Common items include:
- Household waste
- Furniture and mattresses
- Garden waste
- Building or renovation debris
- Hazardous materials
Council Responsibilities
Fylde Council is only able to take action when fly-tipping occurs on public land, such as streets, parks, and footpaths. We do not have the responsibility to remove waste from private land.
Investigation and Penalties
When fly-tipping is reported on public land, our officers will investigate the incident. If we find evidence that identifies the individual or business responsible, we may issue a Fixed Penalty Notice of £1,000.
In serious cases, offenders may face prosecution in court, which could result in a larger fine and a criminal record.
