Fylde’s community has stepped up in style for BBC Children in Need, with over 100 ramblers joining the 2026 River Ribble Ramble and raising a fantastic £746.41 for children and young people across the UK.
Now in its seventh year, the much-loved charity walk set off from the event lawn at Fairhaven on Sunday 1 November, with families, friends and keen walkers of all ages taking on the scenic coastal path to Lytham Windmill and back. This year’s bigger and better event brought a YMCA Fylde Coast warm-up, the Discover Fylde tourism van and Wave Coffee Trailer to the Fairhaven lawn, plus a halfway refreshment stop at the boat house by Lytham Windmill, creating a vibrant atmosphere for everyone who came along.
The ramble was co-founded by Councillor Tommy Threlfall, Fylde Council’s Lead Member for Environment, and BBC Radio Lancashire presenter Graham Liver, and their partnership continues to turn a simple walk into one of the highlights of the Fylde coast calendar.
Councillor Tommy Threlfall said: “What a day! When Graham and I set off on the very first ramble seven years ago, we never imagined it would grow into something this special. Children in Need makes a real difference to the lives of children and young people facing tough times and knowing that every step taken along the River Ribble today helps make that possible is what makes me so grateful for everyone’s efforts. Seeing so many people of all ages walking together for such a brilliant cause really shows the generous heart of our community. A huge thank you to everyone who walked, donated and cheered us on. You’ve made a real difference, and I can’t wait to see you all again next year.”
Every penny raised will help BBC Children in Need support projects that change young lives in communities right across the UK. There’s still time to add to the total, with donations open on the event’s JustGiving page. Fylde Council would like to say a huge thank you to every walker, stallholder and donor who made this year’s ramble such a success and looks forward to welcoming you all back next year.
