Thousands of Fylde residents will soon find an exciting letter landing on their doormat, as the Council begins delivering the first official communications for its brand-new weekly food waste collection service from Monday 20 July. If you’re among the first phase of households to receive a letter, it means your new service is just around the corner.

The letters are the first step in bringing this fantastic new service to life for 10,000 households across the borough, confirming that caddies will be delivered ahead of collections beginning in autumn. Residents can expect a further information guide alongside their caddy delivery, which will confirm their personal collection start date and collection day – making it simple to know exactly when to get started.

The new service – backed by over £1 million in Government funding – will see kitchen and food scraps transformed into renewable energy through anaerobic digestion, rather than going to landfill. Collections will take place weekly on residents’ existing bin collection days, at no extra cost.

Councillor Michelle Morris, Lead Member for Customer and Operational Services, said: “We’re so pleased to be taking this next step and getting information out to our residents. If you receive a letter, it means your new food waste service is just around the corner – and we’re here to help every step of the way. I hope that all residents will get involved, as every food waste caddy makes a real difference – cutting down on landfill and turning everyday waste into renewable energy.”

Residents who would like to find out more or speak to the team in person are also welcome to visit one of our community engagement sessions taking place at locations across Fylde throughout the summer.
