Tenants across Fylde will benefit from strengthened housing support when the Renters’ Rights Act 2025 comes into force this spring – the most significant reform to the private rented sector in over 30 years.
Fylde Council has approved plans to use £27,307.17 in government New Burdens Funding to prepare its Housing Service for the changes, which begin on 1 May 2026. The funding received from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government will help the Council build capacity across homelessness prevention, housing advice and private sector enforcement, so residents have access to the right support when they need it.
The Act introduces wide-ranging new rights for private renters, and the Council is working hard behind the scenes to ensure its teams are ready to help residents navigate those changes with confidence.
Councillor Chris Dixon, Portfolio Holder for Social Wellbeing, said: “We want every resident in Fylde who rents their home to know that we are here to support them. This funding means we can put the right people and resources in place ahead of May, so that when the new rights come in, our community can access the help and advice they deserve.”
Further government funding is expected in coming years as the legislation is rolled out in phases. Fylde Council will share more information for residents closer to the 1 May launch date.
