Great news for Fylde residents – the Council has confirmed that when weekly food waste collections launch in Autumn 2026, residents will enjoy a completely free additional service with no changes to their existing bin arrangements.
After listening carefully to community feedback, Fylde Council has decided that grey bins will continue to be used for general waste and brown bins for paper and card recycling, exactly as they are today. The only change residents will see is the arrival of free kitchen and kerbside caddies for food waste recycling, delivered directly to every home at no cost to local taxpayers thanks to funding secured from DEFRA.
This exciting new service forms part of the UK Government’s ‘Simpler Recycling’ initiative and marks a significant milestone in Fylde’s environmental journey. Food waste currently makes up over a third of what ends up in household bins, and the new weekly collections will transform these scraps into renewable energy rather than sending them to landfill where they release harmful methane gas.
Looking ahead, residents can expect even more recycling opportunities, with kerbside collection of Tetra Pak cartons and soft plastics arriving from April 2027.
Councillor Michelle Morris, Lead Member for Customer and Operational Services, said: “We’ve listened to our residents, and we’re delighted to confirm that your bins are staying exactly as they are. This means Fylde households will simply benefit from a fantastic free additional service that helps protect our environment, all at no extra cost. It’s a real win for our community.
“I’d also like to remind residents that toothpaste tubes can now be recycled in your blue bin – just pop them in whole without cutting them open. It’s another small change that makes a big difference.”
