Clifton Street’s much-anticipated transformation moves forward this month as arborists begin essential tree care works to ensure the street’s cherished London Plane trees continue to flourish for generations to come.
Starting on Monday 19 January, arborists will carefully prune 28 trees along this historic Lytham thoroughfare, marking the first phase of the £292,495 investment that will see the street transformed with heritage-style lighting and a thriving tree canopy. These vital works will help the trees remain healthy and strong, ensuring they continue to provide the leafy character that makes Clifton Street so special for residents, visitors and local businesses.
The Council has worked closely with residents and businesses along Clifton Street and has been in touch directly with those affected. Comprehensive traffic and pedestrian management measures will be in place throughout to keep everyone safe while maintaining access to shops and homes. The tree care works are expected to be completed in February, with minimal disruption.
Following the tree works, elegant new heritage-style lighting columns will be installed in March, featuring the distinctive Clifton family crest and decorative oak and elm designs that celebrate Lytham’s rich heritage.
Councillor Karen Buckley, Leader of Fylde Council, said: “We’re delighted to see this transformation taking shape. By caring for our trees first, we’re ensuring Clifton Street retains its natural charm while preparing for the beautiful new lighting that will brighten our town centre. Thank you to residents and businesses for their patience as we create something truly special for Lytham.”
Councillor Catherine Powell of Lytham Town Council added: “This investment in Clifton Street demonstrates what we can achieve when councils work together for our community. These improvements will enhance our beautiful town centre, support our independent businesses and create an even more welcoming environment for everyone who lives in, works in and visits Lytham.”
