Residents living in Fylde’s mid-rise and high-rise buildings will benefit from a comprehensive audit programme delivered by Fylde Council and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service in January 2026.

The initiative will see all buildings over 11 metres undergo thorough safety checks, giving residents and their families greater peace of mind about their homes. Working in partnership with Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, the Council is taking a proactive approach to ensure buildings in both the mid-rise (11-18m) and high-rise (18m+) categories meet the highest safety standards following national changes to fire safety requirements.

The programme demonstrates Fylde Council’s commitment to keeping residents safe, with Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service inspecting communal areas while council teams focus on residential aspects to ensure all areas of fire safety compliance are reviewed. Building owners and managers will be asked to provide their Fire Risk Assessments before joint inspections begin, followed by sample checks of individual flats where needed.

Cllr Chris Dixon, Lead Member for Social Wellbeing, said: “The safety of our residents is paramount, and this comprehensive audit programme shows we’re taking decisive action to ensure everyone living in buildings over 11 metres can feel secure in their homes. By working closely with Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and building managers, we’re creating multiple layers of protection that will benefit our communities for years to come.”

The Council is encouraging freeholders, leaseholders, tenants and managing agents to get involved early by contacting the Fire Safety Audit Team at housing.enforcement@fylde.gov.uk to begin the engagement process ahead of the January launch.
