Residents and visitors across Fylde can now enjoy modern, sustainable bus shelters following the successful completion of an ambitious replacement programme delivered in partnership with Bauer Media Outdoor UK.

The transformative project has seen every advertising bus shelter across the borough replaced with state-of-the-art facilities, delivering a remarkable upgrade to local public transport infrastructure without spending a penny of council taxpayers’ money. From St Annes Square to rural routes across Fylde, commuters, shoppers, and day-trippers are already benefiting from these weather-resistant, accessible shelters designed to last at least 15 years.

The new shelters showcase Fylde’s commitment to a greener future, with selected locations featuring innovative Living Roofs that support local biodiversity and solar panels that harness renewable energy. These environmental features demonstrate how modern infrastructure can work hand-in-hand with nature to create more sustainable communities. Looking ahead, all the new shelters have been future-proofed, allowing for real-time passenger information displays to be retrofitted when the technology is available to the Local Transport Authority.

Since the first installation on Clifton Drive North in January, the rollout has progressed smoothly across all planned locations, transforming the experience for thousands of daily bus users.

Councillor Michelle Morris, Lead Member for Operational Management, commented: “This fantastic project has delivered exactly what we promised – modern, sustainable bus shelters across our entire borough at absolutely no cost to Fylde residents. These shelters will serve our communities brilliantly for years to come, making public transport more comfortable and accessible while supporting our environmental goals.

“It’s wonderful to see this partnership deliver such tangible benefits for our residents and visitors.”

Emma Lloyd, Portfolio Partnership Manager at Bauer Media Outdoor UK, said: “Our partnership with Fylde Council is a great example of how smart collaboration can deliver long-lasting benefits for local communities. By combining modern design with sustainable features such as Living Roofs and solar panels, we’ve created shelters that not only improve everyday journeys but also enhance the local environment. Together, we’re helping Fylde futureproof its infrastructure and deliver lasting value for residents — all at no cost to the public purse.”

The completed project represents a significant milestone in Fylde Council’s ongoing commitment to improving public infrastructure while protecting residents from unnecessary costs.
