Fylde Council’s employment and skills partnership with AFC Fylde Community Foundation has helped 11 residents secure jobs in its first three months, including positions at BAE Systems, Mill Farm Sports Village and other local Fylde businesses.
The programmes, backed by £167,650 from Fylde’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund, are supporting 56 residents across three targeted initiatives. Nine participants from the Fylde Focus 19+ programme have found employment, ranging from cyber security roles to teaching assistant positions. The apprenticeship scheme has placed two residents at Fylde Rugby Foundation and The Bell and Bottle, with both apprentices starting their qualifications in September 2025.
Working closely with St Annes Job Centre and YMCA Harbour House, the Foundation is reaching those facing significant barriers to employment, Staff deliver employability courses directly at Harbour House through the ‘Fylde Focus’ programme, where nine homeless residents are receiving support. The 16-18 NEET programme is currently helping 12 young people access training and work opportunities to better their futures.
“These results show our investment working exactly as intended – getting local people into local jobs,” said Councillor Karen Buckley, Leader of Fylde Council. “Every placement represents a resident gaining financial independence and local businesses finding the staff they need.”
Chris Brannigan, Chief Executive Officer of AFC Fylde Community Foundation, added: “I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve delivered through our ongoing partnership with Fylde Council. Together, we’re breaking down barriers to employment and connecting Fylde residents with local businesses for sustainable, long-term opportunities.”
The programmes will continue until March 2026, with the Foundation working alongside local businesses including The Clifton Arms, Kenyon Dental Surgery and Clifford Plumbing to create additional apprenticeship opportunities. A jobs fair at Mill Farm Sports Village is planned to connect NEET young people with employers and training providers later this year.
