Fylde Council has approved a major investment to create a brand-new village green in the centre of Singleton, in partnership with Singleton Parish Council and the Richard Dumbreck Singleton Trust.

This long-held local aspiration will transform land in the heart of the village into an attractive, safe and accessible green space for everyone to enjoy. The village green will include new footpaths linking the pub, church and school, beautiful planting, a pond, grassed areas, seating, lighting and welcoming entrances. Together, these features will create a peaceful hub for residents and visitors alike.

The ambitious £366,564 project is being made possible thanks to strong community partnership working. Funding will come from a mix of local contributions, including the Parish Council, the Trust and other funders, along with support from Fylde’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund and capital reserves.

Fylde Councill will now begin developing detailed technical drawings and carrying out ecological assessments ahead of a planning application. Having successfully delivered the Elswick green project in 2022, the team brings valuable experience to this new development.

Councillor Karen Buckley, Leader of the Council said: “This is a fantastic example of the difference we can make when we work together with our communities and local partners. Singleton’s new village green will deliver real benefits for local people, including safer walking routes, more biodiversity and a beautiful new space for residents of all ages to enjoy.”

Councillor Matthew Lee, Chairman of Singleton Parish Council, added: “It is fantastic that this scheme is finally coming to fruition with the help and support of Fylde Council. I am very grateful to the team at Fylde who have taken the numerous survey responses from our residents and created such a perfect design. This is a project that will benefit our residents for many generations to come.”

The land, currently owned by the Trust, will be transferred to Singleton parish Council for a nominal sum to unlock the project. Fylde Council will deliver the works, and the Parish will take on responsibility for maintaining the green long into the future.

With planning permission to be secured and preparatory works expected to begin in 2025, the project is set to provide a lasting legacy for Singleton, enhancing the village’s green environment and community life.
