Fylde Council proudly commemorated the 80th anniversary of D-Day with a community event at Fairhaven Lake on Thursday 6 June.
This special occasion brought together visitors, residents, veterans, and local officials to honour the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought in the historic Normandy invasion.
The event featured a variety of activities, including live music, delicious food, and refreshing beverages, creating a festive atmosphere for attendees of all ages. As the sun set over the picturesque lake, the community gathered for a poignant moment of remembrance.
At precisely 9:15 PM, the beacon was lit, serving as a symbol of hope and resilience. This act of remembrance paid tribute to the soldiers who stormed the beaches of Normandy 80 years ago, forever changing the course of history.
The event was well attended with guests including veterans who served with honour and distinction. Their stories of bravery and sacrifice deeply moved all who attended, reminding us of the profound impact of their contributions.
The Mayor of Fylde, Councillor Karen Henshaw JP also attended the event said:
“It was an honour to commemorate this significant anniversary with our community. The bravery and sacrifice of our veterans continue to inspire us, and it is our duty to remember and cherish their legacy. I am proud of how our community came together to mark this important occasion.”
A great time was had by all, as residents and visitors alike came together to honour the past and celebrate the values of freedom and democracy.
