New packages of support for business have been announced by the Chancellor.

This includes new one-off grants of up to £6,000 for eligible businesses in the hospitality and leisure sectors. At this stage, the Council is waiting for further details from the government on precisely which businesses will qualify for the support, how much they will be awarded and when the support will be made available.

The government will also help certain firms with the cost of sick pay for Covid-related absences, it is not expected that this will be administered by the local authority.

The Additional Restrictions Grant schemes remain suspended while officers process the applications that have been submitted and await further detail and confirmation whether the grant fund will be topped up any further by central government as part of the latest announcement.

Councillor Karen Buckley, Leader of Fylde Council, said: “I am very pleased to hear the government announce a further round of grant support for businesses in need. Hospitality establishments and leisure venues that have fought hard to stay afloat over the course of the Coronavirus pandemic are now facing empty tables during what should be their busiest time of year. Fylde Council will be proud to provide crucial support to our local business owners as soon as possible, and we ask for their patience as we await further information from the government.”

Updates will be published across all media channels as soon they are available.
