Fylde Council has submitted their response to the Government’s consultation on proposed changes to the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF).

Following consideration of the proposed changes by the Local Plan Steering Group, the Council’s Head of Planning was asked to write to the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government, outlining the Council’s position.

Councillor Richard Redcliffe, Chairman of Fylde’s Planning Committee and Deputy Leader of the Council, said:

“We consider that it is important to retain a plan led system rather than planning applications being made on a piecemeal basis.

“Fylde Council has significant concerns that some of the changes proposed by the government, particularly relating to housing supply and the interim arrangements, would undermine the development strategy set out in our local plan which was only adopted in December 2021 following extensive consultation.”

A full copy of Fylde Council’s representation is available below:
Fylde Council response to NPPF consultation September 2024

The government has advised that, due to the number of representations it has received, it is likely that revisions to the National Planning Policy Framework will not be published until the new year.

Further details about the proposed changes to national planning policy are available on the government’s website at: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/proposed-reforms-to-the-national-planning-policy-framework-and-other-changes-to-the-planning-system

Fylde Council is delighted to announce the completion of the new Stanner Bank entrance at Fairhaven Lake and Gardens. This significant upgrade has transformed a previously underutilised area into a welcoming and accessible gateway to the popular attraction.

The project has involved the installation of new, accessible steps that complement the existing sea defences. The steps are designed to be easier to navigate than standard steps, making them suitable for those who may struggle with stairs but do not require a ramp. A ramped path will remain alongside the steps for those who prefer or require that option.

The new entrance is framed by the recently renovated toilet buildings, creating a fantastic first impression for visitors. Future plans include soft landscaping, such as planting trees and shrubs, to further enhance the aesthetic appeal of the area.

Cllr Jayne Nixon, Lead Member for Tourism, Leisure & Culture, said: “We are thrilled to unveil this exciting new addition to Fairhaven Lake and Gardens. The new entrance is a testament to our commitment to improving the visitor experience and making our public spaces more accessible for everyone.”

Fylde Council is committed to addressing the issue of long-term empty properties within the borough. These properties can pose significant problems for both property owners and the wider community, including physical damage, reduced property values, and increased crime rates.

To help bring these properties back into use and revitalise local neighbourhoods, Fylde Council is developing an Empty Homes Strategy. As part of this initiative, the Council is inviting property owners to provide information about their vacant properties.

By completing a brief questionnaire, property owners can help the Council identify potential solutions and support programs to address the issue of empty homes.

The questionnaire will gather information about the property, any steps being taken to bring it back into occupation, and the owner’s contact details.

Councillor Chris Dixon, Fylde Council’s Lead Member for Social Wellbeing, commented, “Empty homes can have a detrimental impact on our communities.

“We can find ways to bring these properties back into use and improve the quality of life for our residents. Empty homes can blight neighbourhoods, can fall into disrepair and be a real concern. And we know there is a real need for properties in the housing market.”

To complete the questionnaire, please click here.
